Mobile Lymphatic Drainage ‘Massage’

Lymphatic drainage massage was originally created by Emil Vodder PhD and his wife, Estrid Vodder, ND in the 1930's. I was taught that it came about to relieve patients from the common cold.

How great is that?! And why are we not using it more often?…

Lymphatic massage has evolved over the years but the basic techniques remain light and focused on allowing the lymphatic vessels and nodes to flow freely through the body. When this fluidity is free and natural it is presumed that a body can achieve better health. The lymphatic system is one of the final repositories of waste in the body. From here the waste is either expired through the skin as sweat or to the kidneys to be flushed out of the body in the form of urine.

Take a look below at the plastination model, can you find the lymphatic system?.

WHERE IS THE LYMPH IN THE PICTURE ON THE RIGHT?

(hint…it rhymes with cello)

I can offer you lymphatic drainage while using Gua Sha tools, massage cups, my hands or a combo. If you are experiencing swelling in your limbs from a long flight or are recovering from a surgery such as lipo-suction, then lymphatic massage may be a great option for you. If you are post surgery or under a doctor’s care make sure to check with them first before booking a session with me.

You may also want to try some dry brushing to help get the swelling down.

The key with reducing swelling is consistency over a sustained period of time as opposed to a one session quick fix. This is important to remember.

What is Gua Sha?

Gua Sha is a 2,000 year old traditional Chinese method of promoting qi and blood circulation. It can be applied vigorously in order to break up muscle adhesions or very very lightly as in the case for lymphatic drainage. I use the light version only so don’t be alarmed if you go reading on the internet and find some pretty intense photos showing the results of Gua Sha, that is not my goal. Gua Sha also removes toxic heat, blood and lymph from the body–the type of toxins that build up over time and make us ill,or so it is believed.

Have a look at some Gua Sha tools in the photos. Give me a call today to book a session or ask any questions you may have.
